A restored family house on the upper edge of Kish, where the village gives way to walnut trees and the Sheki foothills. The stone and timber are the old house; the lime plaster, walnut floors and the kitchen are the work we did later. Four bedrooms, a fireplace room, a library, an orchard table. Nigar cooks with you if you book the dinner. The Albanian church is a walk. Sheki is twenty minutes down.

Dinner under the walnuts was the stay. We cooked with Nigar and sat until the village lights came on. The upper balcony is the morning.
Finished without looking like a hotel. One shebeke window, walnut floors, a fireplace that works. Nigar answered about the Sheki road in minutes.
Four of us, plenty of room. The garden path is steep with bags. Worth it for the orchard and the quiet above Kish.

This was my grandfather’s house. We did not pull it down. The veranda still looks at Kish roofs and the forest. I take guests to the market because that is how we cook — not from a class menu. If you want a quiet house and a long table, you are in the right place.
